Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional

Sermon Audio

"Commitment to God"

Bottom Line: Commitment to God is not first about what you can do for Him, but what He can do with you.

Day 1: Bridging the Gap

Reading: Matthew 19:16-26

Devotional: Today's passage reminds us that bridging the gap between our earthly lives and eternal life isn't about our own good deeds, but about God's goodness and grace. The rich young man sought to earn his way to heaven, but Jesus revealed that true commitment to God starts with recognizing our own insufficiency and God's sufficiency. Reflect on areas in your life where you might be trying to earn God's favor rather than relying on His grace. How can you shift your focus from what you can do for God to what He is doing in and through you?

Day 2: The Economy of Heaven

Reading: Matthew 6:19-21

Devotional: Jesus taught the rich young man that heaven's economy runs on love, not material wealth. Today's passage echoes this truth, urging us to store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. Consider your own priorities and values. Are you investing more in temporary, earthly possessions or in eternal, heavenly treasures? Pray for wisdom to discern how you can use your resources - time, talents, and finances - to show God's love to others and contribute to His kingdom work.

Day 3: The Power of "Because He"

Reading: Romans 5:6-11

Devotional: The sermon emphasized that our salvation and relationship with God always start with "Because He," not "Because I." Today's reading beautifully illustrates this truth, showing that Christ died for us while we were still sinners. Meditate on the profound love God has shown you, not because of your worthiness, but because of His character. How does this realization change your approach to serving and following God? Take time to express gratitude for God's unconditional love and unmerited favor in your life.

Day 4: Prayer for Others

Reading: Philippians 2:3-4

Devotional: We learned that true commitment to God involves laying down planks for others to follow, not just securing our own path to heaven. Today's passage encourages us to look not only to our own interests but also to the interests of others. As you pray today, focus on interceding for others - especially those who may be struggling in their faith or who haven't yet come to know Christ. Ask God to show you practical ways you can support and encourage others in their spiritual journeys.

Day 5: Stewardship and God's Mission

Reading: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Devotional: The sermon touched on stewardship and giving as part of our commitment to God. Today's reading expands on this, showing how our generosity can lead to thanksgiving to God and support of His mission. Reflect on your own giving habits. Are they motivated by obligation or by a desire to participate in God's work? Ask God to give you a generous heart and to help you see your resources as tools for His kingdom. Consider one specific way you can practice sacrificial giving this week, whether through finances, time, or talents, to support God's mission in your community or beyond.
