"All Can Know It"
Day 1: Encountering Jesus in Scripture
Reading: John 1:1-18
Devotional: As we begin this journey, let's reflect on the power of Scripture as an encounter with Jesus. The Bible isn't just a collection of ancient texts; it's a living, breathing testament to God's love and presence in our lives. As you read John's poetic introduction to Jesus as the Word made flesh, consider how God speaks to you through His Word. How does the idea that "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" change your perspective on Bible reading? Today, approach your Scripture reading as a personal encounter with Christ, expecting Him to reveal Himself to you in new and profound ways.
Day 2: The Assurance of Salvation
Reading: Romans 8:14-17
Devotional: Today's passage speaks directly to the question, "Am I saved?" Paul reminds us that we have received the Spirit of adoption, allowing us to cry out "Abba, Father!" to God. This intimate relationship isn't based on our own efforts or worthiness, but on God's gracious act of adoption. Reflect on times when you've felt uncertain about your salvation. How does the image of God as a loving Father who has chosen to adopt you change your perspective? Remember, your salvation isn't dependent on a specific emotional experience or perfect understanding, but on God's faithful love. Take a moment to listen for the Holy Spirit's affirmation in your heart, confirming that you are indeed a child of God.
Day 3: Living in God's Presence
Reading: Psalm 139:1-18
Devotional: Today's psalm beautifully illustrates God's intimate knowledge of us and His constant presence in our lives. As you read, notice how David describes God's all-encompassing presence - from the heights of heaven to the depths of the sea. This omnipresence isn't meant to be intimidating, but comforting. Where in your life do you need to be more aware of God's presence? Perhaps in your workplace, your relationships, or your private thoughts? Take time to practice awareness of God's presence today, looking for evidence of His work in the ordinary moments of your day. Remember, just as the early Methodists practiced, ask yourself, "Where have I seen the Holy Spirit at work this week?"
Day 4: Faith in Times of Suffering
Reading: Romans 8:18-39
Devotional: Suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience, but as Christians, we have hope even in our darkest moments. Paul reminds us that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Moreover, we have the Holy Spirit interceding for us when we don't know how to pray. Reflect on a time of suffering in your life. How did you experience God's presence during that time? Remember that nothing can separate us from God's love - not trouble, hardship, persecution, or even death itself. Today, if you're going through a difficult time, lean into this promise. If you're in a season of joy, pray for those who are suffering, that they might know God's comforting presence.
Day 5: Sharing Our Faith
Reading: Matthew 28:16-20 and Acts 1:8
Devotional: As we conclude our reading plan, we turn to Jesus' Great Commission and His promise of the Holy Spirit's power. Having experienced God's love, salvation, and presence this week, we're called to share these gifts with others. This doesn't necessarily mean street preaching or door-to-door evangelism. Instead, think about how you can naturally share your faith in your daily life. How has God worked in your life this week? Who might benefit from hearing that story? Remember, you're not responsible for convincing others or proving your faith - that's the Holy Spirit's job. Your role is simply to be a witness to what God has done in your life. Today, pray for opportunities to share your faith, and for the courage to take them when they arise.
