Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional
Day 1: Encounter with the Risen Lord
Reading: John 21:1-6
Reflection: Begin your week with the story of the disciples' fruitless night turned miraculous at dawn through Jesus' guidance. Consider how Jesus can transform our efforts and struggles into fruitful endeavors. As you read, reflect on areas in your life that feel barren or unproductive. How can you invite Jesus to direct your efforts in these areas?
Prayer: Lord, just as you directed the disciples to cast their nets on the right side, guide me in my daily tasks. Help me to trust in Your direction even when my efforts seem futile. Amen.
Day 2: Recognizing Jesus
Reading: John 21:7-14
Reflection: Today, focus on the recognition of Jesus by His disciples. What does it mean for you to recognize Jesus in your everyday life? How do you discern His presence in the mundane moments or the unexpected encounters?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to see You in every moment of my day. Help me to recognize Your hand at work and to respond with joy and obedience. Amen.
Day 3: Love and Obedience
Reading: John 21:15-17
Reflection: Peter's reaffirmation of love for Jesus prompts us to examine our own love for the Lord. Do your actions reflect your love for Him? How does this love compel you to serve and care for others as Jesus commands?
Prayer: Dear Jesus, deepen my love for You so that it may be evident in my care for others. Give me the strength to feed Your sheep and tend to Your lambs in my community. Amen.
Day 4: Following Jesus Beyond Decisions
Reading: John 21:18-22
Reflection: Reflect on the idea of lifelong discipleship as opposed to a one-time decision. What does it mean to follow Jesus continuously? Identify ways in which you can demonstrate your commitment to following Him through actions and choices today.
Prayer: Almighty God, I desire to be a lifelong follower, not just a one-time decider. Guide my steps and help me to faithfully follow where You lead, even when it takes me out of my comfort zone. Amen.
Day 5: Living Out the Resurrection
Reading: John 21:23-25
Reflection: As the week comes to a close, ponder the impact of the resurrection on your life. How does the reality of the resurrection shape your interactions and decisions? In what ways can you live out the resurrected life that Jesus offers?
Prayer: Risen Lord, Your resurrection is the blueprint for my existence. Empower me to live out this truth in every aspect of my life, that I may embody Your love and grace to those around me. Amen.
