Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional

Sermon Audio

"... And Who is My Neighbor?"

Day 1: Encountering Jesus in Scripture

Reading: Luke 24:13-35

Devotional: Just as Jesus walked alongside the disciples on the road to Emmaus, opening their eyes to Scripture, He walks with us today through His Word. As you read, pray for the Holy Spirit to illuminate the text, helping you encounter Jesus anew. Reflect on how Scripture has revealed Jesus to you in the past. How might you approach your Bible reading with fresh expectation of meeting Christ?

Day 2: Loving God and Neighbor

Reading: Mark 12:28-34

Devotional: Jesus affirms that loving God and loving our neighbor are the greatest commandments. Consider how these two loves are interconnected. How does your love for God inspire your love for others? Reflect on ways you can demonstrate love for God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength today. Ask God to expand your definition of "neighbor" and show you opportunities to love those around you sacrificially.

Day 3: Seeing the Unseen

Reading: Luke 10:25-37

Devotional: The Good Samaritan saw what others overlooked. Ask God to give you eyes to see the needs around you that others might miss. Who in your life or community is easily ignored or marginalized? How can you extend compassion and practical help to them? Pray for courage to cross social, cultural, or personal boundaries to show Christ's love to someone unexpected today.

Day 4: Mercy in Action

Reading: James 2:14-26

Devotional: James teaches that faith without works is dead. The Samaritan's mercy was demonstrated through tangible actions. Reflect on how you can put your faith into practice today. What specific act of kindness or service can you perform for someone in need? Ask God to help you move beyond good intentions to merciful actions that reflect His love.

Day 5: Christ's Ultimate Mercy

Reading: Romans 5:6-11

Devotional: Jesus is the ultimate Good Samaritan, who saw our helpless state and acted to save us at great cost to Himself. Meditate on the depth of Christ's mercy toward you. How does His sacrificial love motivate you to show mercy to others? Pray for a renewed appreciation of the gospel and for God's love to overflow from you to those around you, especially to those who may be difficult to love.
