Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional

Day 1: Encountering Jesus Where You Least Expect It

Bible Reading: Mark 2:13-14

Devotional: As you reflect on the story of Jesus calling Levi, a tax collector, consider the places in your own life where Jesus might be calling you to follow Him. Perhaps it's in your workplace, your community, or within your family—areas where you least expect a divine encounter. Today, meditate on the courage it takes to stand up from where you are and take that first step towards following Jesus. Consider the areas of your life that may feel like a 'booth' of comfort or routine and ask God to give you the boldness to stand and follow His call.

Question for Reflection: What is your 'tax collector's booth,' and how might Jesus be calling you to stand up and follow Him today?

Day 2: The Unlikely Guests of Jesus

Bible Reading: Mark 2:15-17

Devotional: In today's passage, we see Jesus dining with those deemed 'unworthy' by society. Reflect on the truth that Jesus came not for the righteous, but for the sinners. Contemplate the inclusivity of Jesus' love and how He invites everyone to His table. As you go through your day, challenge yourself to show kindness and openness to those you might usually overlook or judge. Pray for a heart that mirrors Jesus', one that welcomes and loves unconditionally.

Question for Reflection: How can you extend Jesus' invitation of love and fellowship to someone who may feel marginalized or unworthy today?

Day 3: Holy Interruptions

Bible Reading: Luke 5:27-32

Devotional: As you read about another account of Levi's calling, consider the interruptions in your life that may be divine invitations for growth. Sometimes what we view as distractions are opportunities for God to work in us and through us. Reflect on a recent 'interruption' and ask God to show you how it might be part of His purpose for you. Spend time in prayer, asking for the discernment to recognize and embrace these holy interruptions as gateways to spiritual growth.

Question for Reflection: Can you identify a recent 'interruption' in your life that might be a divine invitation for growth or service?

Day 4: Stepping Out of Comfort Zones

Bible Reading: Matthew 9:9-13

Devotional: Matthew's account of Levi's call by Jesus highlights the transformation that occurs when we leave our comfort zones. Reflect on the significance of Jesus' presence in your life and how it compels you to step out in faith. Today, consider a step you've been hesitant to take because it's beyond your comfort zone. Pray for the courage to move forward in faith, trusting that Jesus is guiding you towards a greater purpose.

Question for Reflection: What step is Jesus prompting you to take today that requires you to trust Him and move beyond your comfort zone?

Day 5: The Unseen Hand of God

Bible Reading: Romans 8:28

Devotional: As you ponder this powerful promise, think about how the unseen hand of God is at work in your life, weaving together all things for your good. Consider the 'distractions' that have become significant parts of your journey with Jesus. Reflect on the assurance that God is with you, guiding you, even when the path is unclear. Today, thank God for His providence and submit to His leading, even when it takes you beyond what you had planned.

Question for Reflection: How have you seen God work through unexpected events to bring about good in your life?
