Why Evil? | You Asked For It Week 5

Day 1: God's Presence in Suffering

Reading: Job 38:1-18

Devotional: In times of suffering, we often ask "Why?" Like Job, we may feel overwhelmed by life's trials. But God's response to Job reminds us that His ways are beyond our understanding. Instead of revealing His grand design, God reveals Himself. Today, reflect on how God's presence can be a source of comfort and strength in your struggles. How might you sense God with you in your current circumstances?

Day 2: The Purpose in Pain

Reading: John 9:1-7

Devotional: Jesus' disciples sought a reason for the man's blindness, but Christ redirected their focus to God's power and purpose. Sometimes, our pain isn't about punishment but about potential - the potential for God's work to be displayed in our lives. Consider a challenge you're facing. How might God use this situation to reveal His power and love, both to you and to others?

Day 3: Freedom from Bondage

Reading: Luke 13:10-17

Devotional: The woman bound by Satan for 18 years experienced God's liberating power through Jesus. Her story reminds us that God sees our long-standing struggles and desires to set us free. What area of your life feels "bent over" by pain or sin? Invite Jesus to touch that area today, believing in His power to straighten what is crooked and heal what is broken.

Day 4: Repentance and Perspective

Reading: Luke 13:1-5

Devotional: Jesus challenges us to shift our focus from questioning why bad things happen to others, to examining our own hearts. Tragedy should prompt us to turn to God, not to judge others. Today, take time for self-reflection. Are there areas in your life that need repentance? How can the reality of life's fragility motivate you to draw closer to God?

Day 5: God's Omnipotence and Our Trust

Reading: Job 42:1-6

Devotional: Job's journey from questioning God to encountering Him personally is a powerful reminder of God's sovereignty. When we truly see God for who He is, our perspective changes. Our questions may not all be answered, but our trust can deepen. Reflect on a time when you've experienced God's presence in a profound way. How did it change your view of Him? Ask God to reveal Himself to you anew today, increasing your trust in His omnipotence and love.
